Introduction
During the exchange the main topic will be Emergency Radiography. The topic includes theoretical, practical and clinical studies. The radiography students will get familiar with the examinations and treatment of seriously ill or injured patients. The main theme will include safely handling procedures and management of general radiography examinations, interventions needed with emergency patients and Interactive plain film image interpretation from upper and lower extremity trauma cases.
The imaging units where the clinical placements take place are situated mainly in Medical Imaging Centre of Turku University Central Hospital. You have the possibility to study in different units with facilities to receive emergency patients: conventional radiography, CT, MRI, interventional procedures. Also you are able to visit in conventional nuclear medicine unit, Turku PET Center, Radiotherapy Department and health care centres. EMERGENCY RADIOGRAPHY
OBJECTIVES AND CONTENT
The student will:
- plain film image interpretation (upper and lower extremity)
- get orientated in Finnish culture and health care system and Finnish radiography
- develop basic knowledge and skills in emergency radiography
- get familiar with radiation protection and in safely handling procedures in
- emergency radiography
- practice emergency patient care in different radiography situations
- evaluate patient´s vital functions in emergency examinations and interventions
- evaluate the results of various emergency examinations
Erasmus programme includes three course units:
Course unit: ECTS Type, assessment
Please note: 1 ECTS = 27 hours student work. Also: if you need a numerical evaluation (instead of pass/fail), you need to mention this separately to every teacher in the beginning of every course that you take part in!
1. Finnish for Exchange students OR Get Finternational course
– Learning basic Finnish language and phrases OR
– Get Finternational: learning about different cultures in a multicultural group, lectures, workashops and study visits
3 ECTS
2. Emergency radiography theoretical studies
- Emergency patient/Patient care
- Basic life support and handling procedures
- Emergency radiography procedures with different modalities
- Radiation protection and other factors in safe emergency radiography
- Evidence Base Practise
- Interactive plain film image interpretation from upper and lower extremity trauma cases (Including and exam with numerical evaluation)
7 ECTS Lectures, Work Shops, Case studies and, presentation, Project and seminars
3. Clinical education
- 8 weeks in different imaging units (Mon-Thu)
- Presentation about the clinical practice experience
10 ECTS Participation in emergency and other radiography procedures
Total 20 ECTS
SCHEDULE
WEEK 1 (the semester starts with orientation on the 4.1.2023)
Welcome and introduction of Turku University of Applied Sciences
- Introduction of Turku town
- Presentations of the exchange students
- Instructions of the tasks and clinical placements
- Orientation day for incoming students 4.1. and 5.1.2023
WEEK 2-7 Clinical placements (Mon-Thu) in Turku University Central Hospital and Health Centres and Studies in the institute/Self studying (Friday).
WEEK 8 Skiing holiday (this timing will be confirmed later)
Possibilities to cross-country skiing, skating and downhill skiing and visiting other parts of Finland by own cost
WEEK 9 Clinical placements (Monday-Thursday) in Turku University Central Hospital and Health Centres and Studies in the institute/Self studying (Friday).
WEEK 10-11 Clinical placements in Turku University Central Hospital and Health Centres Clinical placements
(Monday-Thursday) and Studies in the institute/Self studying (Friday).
